TitleOptimizing estimation of breeding values for pigs in Austria: a contribution to food safety

Aims1. Estimation of breeding values for meat quality traits and adaptation of meat quality index. 2. Considering of MHS-Status for estimating breeding values in sire breed Pietrain. 3. Considering on-station performances of crossbred animals for estimating breeding values of purebred animals in dam breeds Large White and Landrace. 4. Common estimation of breeding values for fattening and slaughter traits (on-station) and reproduction traits (on-farm) in dam breeds Large White and Landrace.
ResultsEight characteristics of the performance testing and heritability were estimated for the mother breeds Large White and Landrace and for sire breed Pietrain Three possible types of MHS-Status for estimating breeding values in sire breed Pietrain were estimated and further considered. The effects of considering of crossbred animals for estimating breeding values of purebred animals in dam breeds Large White and Landrace were assessed using rank correlations and graphical illustration of the estimated breeding values for active Large White and Landrace.
